About Alex Maddox

I bought my first SLR in 1973 and set up my first dark room for printing in black and white around that time too. Nowadays I occasionally use film, but more often, I use a Canon digital SLR.

My main subject interests are seaside, landscape, flowers, animals and macro photography.

I have an extensive portfolio covering many countries. The images on this site are a selection from my stock of over 20,000 images.

I have had photographs published in a number of UK photography magazines, namely Amateur Photographer, Total Digital Photography, What Camera Magazine, Better Digital Photography and Digital Camera magazine. I have also written photographic articles for Lifestyle West and provided covers for two Archant publications. A number of my images were also used to illustrate the photographic techniquest described in the book "An illustrated A to Z of digital photography".

I was short-listed for a Channel 4 photographic competition, which was exhibited in London (The Photographers' Gallery), Liverpool (Open Eye Gallery) and Edinburgh (Stills Gallery).

The education section of the website grew out of my enthusiasm about digital photography. I am passionate about photography and sharing the joys by helping friends and clients get more out of their digital cameras. Help can be making it easier, or working on composition or constructive criticique.

I am regularly asked what camera to buy, so I occasionally add some camera recommendations to the site (use at your own risk!).
